Waste-water and Waste-water Treatment

Northwest Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements
Wastewater
Client: City of Houston
Location: Houston, Texas
The Northwest WWTP has an average day capacity of 18.0 mgd and serves the developed area of Houston surrounding the IH-610 and US-290 intersection. The original construction dates back to the 1960’s and most recent update was in the late 1980’s. A substantial rehabilitation was required to maintain the integrity of the facility. The $20,000,000 project was conducted with two design and construction packages.
Package I included evaluating the evaluation of the odor control system, rehabilitation and/or replacements of the scum removal system, rehabilitation and/or replacement of aeration basin slide gates, replacement of the clarifier drain valves, hydraulic evaluation of the clarifier performance, structural evaluation of the chemical building, maintenance building, administration building, and maintenance building foundations, and replacement of the waste sludge pump station. KIT conducted the clarifier drain valve replacement, clarifier hydraulic evaluation, clarifier condition assessment and building repairs.
Package II includes the replacement of the clarifier mechanisms, replacement return activated sludge pump stations, replacement of the coarse air diffusers in aeration basins 6 thru 10 and installation of a new non-potable water system network.

W. Tidwell No. 1 Lift Station Renewal and Replacement
Wastewater
Location: Houston, Texas
The City of Houston operates over 420 lift stations within a service area that covers over 650 square miles. The preservation of the numerous lift stations requires a continual cycle of capital projects to rehabilitate or replace the aging infrastructure. KIT has participated in the rehabilitation or replacement of over 20 lift stations for the City of Houston in the past five years
The projects include a full spectrum of engineering services including the preparation of a consolidation study which evaluates alternatives for the elimination/consolidation of the lift station, preparation of a preliminary engineering report outlining the rehabilitation, replacement or elimination alternatives, detailed design, and construction administration services. KIT has performed these services for lift stations ranging in capacity from 0.4 to 12.3 million gallons per day.

Beltway 8 Wastewater Treatment Plant Improvements
Wastewater
Client: City of Houston
Location: Houston, Texas
The project included the evaluation of the rehabilitation/replacement of the non-potable water system, chlorine contact basin hydraulics, aeration basin drains, secondary clarifiers and need to add an additional clarifier, belt press polymer feed system, replacement of the gates for the chlorine contact basin and old aeration basins, rehabilitation of the grit removal system, alternatives for providing dissolved oxygen control for coarse bubble aeration system, improvements to the influent lift station, repairs to the leaking air distribution system, add motor operators to all clarifier gate. As a subconsultant, KIT conducted an evaluation of the non-potable water system and made recommendations to improve the performance of the system. The project included the modeling of the non-potable water system distribution system to determine necessary improvements, evaluation of demands, evaluation of pumping systems, and preliminary design of the non-potable water system.
